Do you and your students know that there are math and coding competitions out there and some even come with monetary winnings???

Well, now you do! Ha!

Fantastic List of Math & Coding Competitions

The following are fantastic resources/websites that have pretty amazing competition lists.

  1. ART OF PROBLEM SOLVING

As I was researching high school math competitions, I came across the Art of Problem Solving website. They have an extremely comprehensive list of all kinds of Math Competitions.

AoPS lists all types of competitions across the United States. They even go into detail about the competition/test, the level of difficulty, and breakdown of what types of questions would be on the test! Wow!

They also break down the competitions by state! Whoa!

  1. JOHNS HOPKINS – Center for Talented Youth

Johns Hopkins has a list of Math & Computer Science Competitions!

The list does repeat some of the competitions from the Art of Problem Solving website, but I wanted to add it to my list because it has both math and computer science competitions. YAY!

This website has links to the competition’s website. LOVE!

  1. PREPSCHOLAR

PrepScholar has a list of 11 computer science competitions and an explanation of each.

They range from just simply finishing the competition to winning scholarship money.

4. CS Recitations – Math & Coding Competitions

There are both math and coding competitions on this website. They are meant for all grade levels. How cool!

But why participate in competitions?

Now that you have a list of all types of competitions, why should the students even do them in the first place?

Here are my thoughts:

  1. Competitions create a challenge.
  2. There are scholarship opportunities.
  3. They gain out-of-school experiences.
  4. Sometimes students enjoy competing and it comes natural.

Do your students participate?

Do your students participate in competitions and do you have thoughts on why students should participate?  I’d love to know which one(s) your students have participated in, what your experiences were, and what your thoughts are on competitions!
