Backstory

When I was 5 years old, I was in Ms. McDonald’s Sunday School class and upon graduating from that class, she gave me a KJV Bible with my name embossed on the front cover. I loved that Bible and I took it everywhere… I’m not sure when this happened or who gave it to me, but I received a namesake memory card that I put in that Bible and used it as a bookmark. It had my first name, Brandi, at the top, and the biblical meaning underneath, “Beacon Light”.

Biblical Meaning of Brandi

Lately, I’ve been meditating on this meaning and how I could live up to my name. So, I looked up it up, and another way to phrase “beacon light” can be referred to as “lighthouse” to or for God. Boy, was I stunned to find that out!

So, in thinking of what a lighthouse does, it shines a light into the darkness to warn of land and/or danger being nearby. Therefore, my mission in life is be a light for Jesus. I am to be a light burning bright, so that all men may see that Jesus in me and give glory to God. This automatically took me to the Bible verse Matthew 5:16:

In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven. — Matthew 5:16 (CSB)

Shine!

After reading that verse, a song from 1994 by the Newsboys called “Shine” popped into my head. Part of the chorus says,

Let it shine before all men

Let em see good works and then

Let em glorify the Lord

What does this biblical meaning look like in my life?

The big question is: what does this look like in my everyday life?

The fruits of the spirit, of course! Love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. (Galatians 5:22) These are the result of the Holy Spirit being in my life.

If you want an in depth explanation of each of them, check out this article by Christianity.com.

I can’t preach or push my religion in schools; however, that doesn’t mean I can’t show them the love of Jesus! I might be the only Jesus someone sees!

-Me

What if I stumble?

Because I am a teacher, I have several pairs of eyes on me daily. I am sure I will stumble and not show these characteristics. I am human, after all. However, I will ask God for forgiveness, first. Then, I will ask the students for forgiveness for not showing them the best of me.

New Song

As I wrap up this blog, let me leave you with a newer song that I recently discovered: Colton Dixon’s “Let Them See You”.

“Let Them See You” – Colton Dixon

Here is the chorus:

Let them see You

In me

Let them hear You

When I speak

Let them feel You

When I sing

Let them see You

Let them see You

In me

My Prayer

I pray this biblical meaning over my life and will continue daily to live up to my name. I will be a light house for Jesus!

  1. Oh my word! My name is Brandi as well, and your story about your bible and name card are my story as well. Today, while reading my Bible, my Brandi = Beacon Light card fell out – unbeknownst to me…and my dog chewed it up. I’d had it for nearly 30 years! I’m crushed, as it also was signed by my dear friend who gave it to me. I was searching for a replacement card, which led me to this blog entry! I love what I read! Signed up for your newsletter.

  2. I am teaming for the Walk to Emmaus in the New Rivery Valley in Virginia and while writing individual cards for the ladies I came upon your article. I have thoroughly enjoyed reading it. I am looking each of their names up and writing what it means in Biblical terms.
    Thank you! God Bless you!
